Beautiful by Brettdagirl Beautiful by Brettdagirl
Happy Christmas to everyone, hope you enjoy a bit of a different look at the Holiday. The beauty of it lies not in the decorations, or the presents that we get, or even being with family, as wonderful as all of those things are.

"For man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart."

Because it's about the day that God gave us a very special gift: one that did not look extraordinary, and was under-appreciated, and yet was the most extraordinary thing we could ever receive.

On this day which celebrates the birth of the Messiah into the world, who gave the greatest of sacrificial gifts, let us demonstrate beauty of the heart through love, kindness, and giving.

It doesn't matter where you come from, who you're surrounded by, or what you look like: Make your Christmas beautiful from the inside out.
God bless.

This is a beautiful picture Brett, and so different from what would be considered a "normal" Christmas piece.

The color pallet is almost film noir, which mixed with your sharp, off kilter angles makes for an eye catching undercurrent of energy in what would otherwise be a very still and quiet piece. The lighting is also really cool looking, particularly the area's catching most of the highlights from the moon. It really draws the eye from your main figure back into the city.

Speaking of your main figure, he's a wonderful study in textures. The contrasts of his hair (both textures of it) with the metal of his implants and then the interesting texture you overlaid on his coat leaves no room for visual boredom. It's also very interesting to see a fact that would normally inspire horror and to see such a soft expression on it.
He's also dropping some serious dough. O_O

Anyway, this is a great piece, and I think is really the crown jewel of your December 2011.

He is indeed dropping some serious dough. XD

And yeah, actually no one has seemed to notice this yet, but I have the same texture overlaying everything, no individual ones. It was fun to see how that one pattern looked different over each different colour.

Furthermore, I'm really glad the expression carried over so well, even though there was not much face left to work with on that. I think I have gotten a bit better at the subtleness in expression lately, so that is one thing I've been really enjoying working with.

As for the background, I am extremely pleased that what started out as an accident came out so effective and well loved. Sometimes skill just can't compete with dumb luck. XD

All in all, I am honoured by your praise on this piece, and offer my most profuse thanks.~
