The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

And this is not a complaint about Homestuck itself, oh no. My issue is with the fanbase. Self-entitled, obsessive piranha of the internet.

You bullied Andrew Hussie into changing something in his comic. HUSSIE. CHANGING THE COMIC. Over something that was obviously just funny (because, hello, instead of being black and white, the chick actually looked caucasion.) Congrats on all being complete and utter morons.

It is JUST A STORY. Y'all take it so fracking seriously! Like your lives depend on it or something! This is most likely why Hussie was doing the crazy trickster sequence in the first place!! 'Cause you guys just can't let things be there for the sake of being there and being random fun!

You've gotta take issue with every stupid thing!

Well suck it up, 'cause it ain't YOUR story, it's his. And you love it so much?

Then SHOW SOME RESPECT TO THE GUY WHO CREATED THE SOURCE OF YOUR OBSESSION.

I swear, people make this stuff all about them, and it's not. It's got nothing to do with you, it is the writer's story. Let them do what they want. Yeesh.

Congrats on lengthening the period of retinal torture. Were I Hussie, I would SO be dragging the trickster stuff out just to get back at you jerks. And he definitely seemed to kick it up several thousand notches after he had to change that one little joke. So thanks for making the rest of us have to suffer. Y'all suck.
